This policy explains what information Quick-Reg collects, why we collect it, who can see it and how long we keep it.
Information we collect
- Account details. When you create an account, we store your name, your email address and a hashed version of your password. We never store the password itself.
- Sign-in sessions. While you are signed in, we store each session with the IP address and browser details it was created from, so you can review your signed-in devices and sign them out from your profile.
- Community contributions. Posts you write about a registration, the ratings you give and your reactions to other people's posts are stored against your account.
- Registration searches. When anyone checks a registration, we send it to the DVLA and add one to a search count for that registration, along with the time it was last searched. This count is not linked to you or your account.
- Usage limits. To prevent abuse, we keep daily counters of how many checks and contact messages come from an IP address, a browser or an account.
- Contact messages. If you use the contact form, your name, email address, subject and message are emailed to us. They are not saved in the Quick-Reg database.
How we use your information
- To check vehicles using data from the DVLA

- To apply usage limits, keep the service secure and prevent abuse

What other people can see
- Posts you write are shown publicly on that registration's page, with your name.
- Ratings are shown publicly as an average and a total for each registration, and reactions as totals for each post. They don't show who gave them.
- The most searched registrations are listed publicly on Top searches, with how many times each was searched and when it was last searched. The list doesn't show who searched.
Vehicle data from the DVLA
Vehicle details come from the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service. To avoid repeating requests, we cache each DVLA response for up to 24 hours, so the details you see can be up to a day old.
Cookies and browser storage
We use the following cookies. They are needed for the service to work, and we don't use advertising cookies.

Your recent searches are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They stay there and are never sent to our server. You can remove them with the Clear button next to your recent searches, or by clearing your browser's data for this site.
Who we share information with
We do not sell, trade or rent your personal information. We use these providers to run Quick-Reg:
- The DVLA receives the registration numbers you check, but not your account details.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores cached data and usage counters.
- Our database hosting provider stores account and community data.
- Account emails, such as sign-in links, codes and password resets, and messages from the contact form are sent through Cloudflare Email Service or an SMTP email provider.
We may also share information:
- With your explicit consent
- To comply with legal obligations or court orders
- To protect our rights, property or safety, or those of our users
- In connection with a business transfer or acquisition
Data security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. These include encrypted connections, hashed passwords, and access controls on accounts and administration tools.
Administrators can view account details and signed-in sessions, including their IP address and browser details, to provide support. They can also sign in as a user to investigate a problem, suspend or delete accounts, and remove content that breaks our terms of service.
How long we keep information
- Account details, posts, ratings and reactions are kept until your account is deleted. Deleting an account also deletes its posts, ratings and reactions.
- You can delete your own posts at any time. To delete your account, contact us.
- Sign-in sessions end when they expire or when you sign out.
- Cached DVLA responses are kept for up to 24 hours.
- Usage counters are kept for up to a day.
- Registration search counts are kept indefinitely and are not linked to anyone.
- Contact messages are kept in our email inbox.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Erase your personal information
- Transfer your data to another service
- Object to how we process your personal information
To use any of these rights, contact us. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the new policy on this page and update the date above.
